The Lady in the Van tells the 'mostly' true story of Alan Bennett's somewhat strained friendship with Miss Mary Shepherd, an irritable, eccentric, homeless woman. Bennett befriended Miss Shepherd in the 1970s, before letting her park her Bedford van in the driveway of his Camden home. Except what he had intended as a short, three-month stay, turned into a stay of 15 years...
